Wine Editor - John McLaren

As director of The Wine Institute of California in the UK, John McLaren has been California's wine ambassador for over 10 years.  He has played every role in the wine business - buying it, selling it, writing about it, consulting about it, lecturing on it, but above all, drinking and enjoying it.  In the last six years, California's wine sales in the UK have quadrupled, for which John claims full responsibility, because if they go down again, he knows he'll get the blame.  John lives and works in London, UK.

Travel Editor - John Poimiroo

John has been observing, writing about and promoting California travel destinations for well over 30 years.  How much well over that, he won't exactly say.  During the 1990s, he was California's minister of tourism (Deputy Secretary for Trade and Commerce) and is the only person to have won both the Society of American Travel Writers' Western Chapter's Frank Riley award for travel writing and its Photo Shootout Gold Prize.  Among many honors he has received in journalism, public relations and marketing, he was selected the top state tourism director, was inducted into the California Tourism Hall of Fame and was presented the University of Colorado's first Chancellor's Tourism Award.  He was on teams that were presented two Take Pride in America environmental awards by the U.S. government and two Travel Industry Association of America Odyssey awards, American tourism's highest communications honor.  John owns Poimiroo & Partners, a consultancy in El Dorado Hills, California (east of Sacramento) that specializes in travel and tourism marketing communications.
